CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name: Vanezio "Vane" Lykastis
Age: 23
Subject taught: Flower pressing.
Canon: In this world, there is no green.

Only concrete, glass and pavement. Mankind wrapped itself in a blanket of its own arrogance and superiority and blinded itself to the signs. Where the trees and animals withered and died, they saw opportunity and expansion. Now they pay the price, the Earth is falling apart and nothing can save it.

Enter World Erus, known as W.E. They are primarily responsible for the distribution of what is left of Earth's little resources. They are also the sole protection mankind has against the elements. With the growth of pollution and the thinning of the ozone, the climate change has reached a fatal point and natural disasters batter at the human population, making almost every area uninhabitable with tornadoes, ice storms, flooding and drought. With the aid of science they have constructed biospheres where humanity can spend the rest of their days in a comfortable, climate controlled environment. Those who can afford it anyway. Those without money are left to rot, which brings us to the protagonist of this story.

Vanezio Lykastis, known mostly as Vane. Born into the middle class, he and his family etched out whatever existence they could on one of the few patches of livable land left on the planet. That is, until W.E. moved in. Claiming the land in the interests of their company, Vane and his family were evicted and left homeless. After that, his life virtually spiraled downwards until his existence could be considered the paragon of tragedy. His parents struggled to support their family but as the planet's conditions worsened, his father decided it was the humane thing to do and tried to kill them all. After shooting his wife, he turned the gun on Vane's older brother and would have shot him too if Vane hadn't stabbed him in the back.

With his brother delegated as his guardian, the two were then forced to carry on their meager existence however they could. With minimal income, Vane dropped out of highschool to help finance his older brother's education through college and was subsequently discarded when his brother, Fausto, graduated. To add another kick to the nuts? His fiance, Eden, left him for his brother because Fausto had the more stable job.

Betrayed, hurt and vengeful, Vane put all thought of his family out of his mind and devoted himself to his own education where it was discovered he was nothing short of a prodigy when he applied himself. Finishing half of his middle school and all of his high school education in just over a year and a half, by the time he entered post-secondary he already was already being drafted for a position within W.E. That was when Eden walked back into his life with a request. She explained that both she and Fausto were too busy with work and that their daughter was suffering for it. Though Vane initially wanted nothing more than to slam the door in her face, she finally wore him down until he said yes.

From that day on Vane was almost solely responsible for the care of his niece, Sunshine. In fact, despite having a full-time job and going to school, Vane still spent more time in Sunshine's life than either of her parents and she quickly grew attached to him as he did to her. Happily Ever After was almost in sight.

Until the accident. Eden and Sunshine were visiting a prototype biosphere when a blizzard hit and the entire dome's shield generators failed, causing it to come crashing down on them. Both were killed.

Vane, who didn't believe that W.E. could fuck up so badly, began to look into the matter. A month into the investigation, just as Vane was about to stumble upon something massive, he was caught one night in an alley and shot at point blank range. That he survived was a miracle in itself, that he seemed to suffer no mental trauma save for a renewed determination even more so. Yet before he could continue his investigation into the "accident," he was suddenly being framed for murder. Evidently, the man who had attacked him was dead and the autopsy put his time of death before Vane had ever been shot, thus pointing towards a struggle between the two. Though the entire situation was entirely preposterous, somehow the situation continued to decline.

His friends lied, saying they were unsure of his character and that he might have been the type to snap one day. His lawyer couldn't be bothered to even verify the facts of the case, often showing up in court drunk. It was then that Vane realized with a sinking feeling that he was being set up for a fall. Not surprising, really, considering he'd been dead set on exposing the most powerful company in the world.

It was at that moment, betrayed by his friends and the man who was supposed to defend him, that Vane finally discarded everyone he had ever trusted or valued. He swore to never rely on anything but what he could accomplish with his own two hands ever again. Which is why, when the opportunity presented itself, Vane broke out of jail and built up his own defense, gathering information and finding irrefutable evidence to support his innocence, all the while being harried by the police. In the end, he proved his own integrity and that he had been set up. His former friends had been bribed while he had been saddled with the most inadequate defense attorney in the district. In the face of his compelling argument, the judge and jury were forced to find him innocent and a new investigation launched into finding who set up such an elaborate plot.

That, amazingly, Vane also answered: his brother.

It was then that Fausto was brought in for questioning and it was there that he dealt the final blow to Vane. Yes, he had tried to have Vane killed. Yes, he had sent Eden and Sunshine into that biosphere knowing it was unsafe and was on the verge of collapsing. Why? Out of spite and jealousy. Fausto was delusional, believing Vane had always taken everything from him that was ever rightfully his, including his daughter.

When Vane tried to protest this out of anger and fury, Fausto permanently broke his faith in humanity. Eden had never left Vane because she wanted to, she'd left because she needed to have a stable environment for the child she was pregnant with.

Vane's child. Sunshine had been his daughter, not his niece.

Though his brother was imprisoned, Vane never truly recovered. His mentality became twisted and warped until he finally came to a conclusion. He wanted this world to end. He wanted the world with all it's corrupt and detestable inhabitants to perish and so he joined W.E. in order to destroy it from within. Without W.E. and their biospheres, if he destroyed the company and left enough chaos in its wake, humanity would never recover in time. The world would surely kill them all before they had a chance to save themselves.

Canon point: At the end of his written history.

Personality:
Vane is an understandably damaged individual and an extreme case of a sociopath. His disregard for society and his peers borders on the violently disturbed and he has very little care for the sanctity of life. However, when within the confines of society, he has two very different faces.

The first persona and the one that everyone will be exposed to until the very end is the-nice-guy. This facade that Vane puts on in order to fit in with society, to make his acquaintances feel at ease and relaxed around him, is essentially a "the nice guy next door" routine. He's friendly, amiable, willing to help and confident in everything he does. He jokes around a little, is quick to smile and will seem very helpful and trustworthy. Above all, he seems like he genuinely wants to be your friend.

In contrast to that, he does everything he can to seem unremarkable. He doesn't want to stand out too much, just enough to be admirable. Enough so that nearby people will look to him if they need a small favor but not if a major problem arises. This is because in doing favors for certain individuals, he'll make them feel indebted to him or at least make them lower their guard around him by seeming simplistic and eager-to-please. He knows that if he makes them too dependent on him, he'll be the first person they look for when a crisis arises- most likely one he himself has started and the best defense he'll have then is how long it takes for someone to notice he's missing.

Having sat on the sidelines while in jail, Vane watched people. He studied and researched, learning how they worked and how to manipulate them. For that reason, while he isn't what many would consider a true genius, he is incredibly cunning and manipulative.

In reality, Vane is disgusted with this world. More than that, he's apathetic towards it. He truly believes there is nothing worth saving and that it would be better if everyone died before they could lie, cheat or betray themselves and others even more. Even children don't escape his views as he thinks they're corrupted by their environment the longer they live and that it would be much better to kill them while they're still innocent. Notably, however, he will never hit a child. Ever.

Cold, detached and eerily composed, Vane believes he understand the truth about the world and its ugliness. He also wants others to understand just how hideous they and their friends are and will even take the time to explain as such. It is his firm belief that there is nobody in this world worth saving and it is highly doubtful anyone will ever be able to convince him otherwise.

Weapon:
Name: Salvation

Form: Mechanical gloves. Constructed of dense microfibers and reinforced with nanobot technology, these gloves are slender, flexible and can withstand bullets and shrapnel. Once on, the player is then able to bring up a holographic screen, which is how they will be able to utilize abilities. (Bonus: comes with LED lights~)

Upgrades:
  • Dual-Wielding: The Player can wield two Weapons at once if one of them has this ability. Even if both Weapons have the Dual-Wielding ability, the Player is still only able to wield two.
  • Supporting Role: If Dual Wielding, all of the other weapon's stats enjoy a large boost. Additionally, when this Ability is equipped, all of this weapon's Upgrade/Ability rings apply instead to the other weapon.
  • DETONATE: Once the player activates this ability, the weapon it belongs to becomes a living bomb. However, the resulting explosion destroys the weapon and renders its owner unconscious unless they have unbreakable will.
  • CATACLYSM: The battlefield becomes the zone of a natural disaster. Anything from earthquakes to thunderstorms. Effect lasts until the end of the battle or until the player deactivates the ability.
  • BIOSPHERE: The player is protected from all environmental effects. (Quicksand, CATACLYSM, etc.)

Lost memories:
  • That his brother was incarcerated for his crimes.
  • Why he has a scar on his chest.
  • How to take medication.
  • The lullaby he used to sing for Sunshine.
  • The name of his world.
  • How to cook.
  • How to disassemble a gun and put it back together again.
  • How to put on a band-aid.
  • That he doesn't have a sister.
